Team profile

Lube Civitanova

The reigning Italian champions take part in the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship for the first time ever. They joined the competition as national champions of the top two non-qualified countries in the FIVB World Rankings (the other being Argentina’s Personal Bolivar).
Lube was founded in 1990 in the town of Treia – though their actual playing venue currently is in neighbouring Civitanova Marche.
Their first major international success came in 2002 when they beat Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus 3-1 in the final to win their only European Champions League title.
The last two years they made the Final Four of the Champions League but on both counts came away with bronze after losing in the semifinals to fellow Italian sides: In 2016 they fell to Trentino Diatec before beating Poland’s Asseco Resovia Rzeszow; and this year they were downed by Sir Safety Perugia before beating Germany’s Berlin Recycling Volleys.
Lube have also won the European Challenge Cup four times, in 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2011.
Domestically, Lube have won four Italian championship titles, in 2006, 2012, 2014 and 2017, in addition to five Cup titles and four Supercups.
