Bolivar

Club Ciudad de Bolivar, from the town of San Carlos de Bolivar, southwest of Buenos Aires, are making their third FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship appearance, after finishing fourth in 2010 in Doha and again last year in Betim.
They joined the 2017 edition as national champions of the top two non-qualified countries in the FIVB World Rankings (the other being Italy’s Cucine Lube Civitanova).
Since their foundation in 2007, Bolivar have won the national title in Argentina six times. This year they ended a dry spell lasting since 2010 after overcoming arch rivals UPCN San Juan in the final series.
In 2010 Bolivar also won their sole South American Club Championship title, when they beat Brazil’s Cimed Florianopolis in the final of the competition which they hosted in Argentina.
This year they settled for silver – their second medal in the history of the South American Club Championship – after losing to Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro in straight sets in the final in Betim.

Javier Weber

Javier Weber

Born on 6 January 1966, as a player Javier Weber became an Olympic bronze medallist in Seoul 1988. He is overall a three-time Olympian, having played for Argentina at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Games. Weber captained the national side for seven years. At club level he competed I Argentina, Italy and Brazil – twice earning the MVP award of the season in 1998 and 1998 in the latter’s Superleague.
Weber embarked on his coaching career in 2003 and passed through Greece before returning home to take the helm of Bolivar – which he led to the South American championship title in 2010 and representing the continent in the FIVB Club World Championship of that year in Doha. He followed up with Bolivar’s second Club World Championship appearance last year.
He has also coached the National Team of Argentina at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
