Zenit Kazan to use edge against Asian teams

 

Zenit Kazan are unbeaten in their meetings against Asian sides

Lodz, Poland, December 13, 2017 – Russia’s Zenit Kazan and China’s Shanghai Golden Age will meet for the first time, with the former trying to use its edge against Asian sides in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship.


Head-to-head
• Zenit Kazan and Shanghai Golden Age will meet for the first time at the men's club world championships.
• Zenit Kazan are unbeaten in their meetings with team representing the AVC in the competition. They beat Iranian side Paykan Teheran twice (2009, 2011), Qatari team Al Arabi once (2012) and Taichung Bank from Chinese Taipei once (2016).

Zenit Kazan
• Zenit started off their men’s club world championship on a high note, beating Bolivar 3-0.
• The Russians have now won their opening match in all six of their men’s club world championships. Only in 2011 and 2015 they also won their second match.
• Last year, the won their last group match and the semifinal consecutively by a 3-0 scoreline. 
• Maxim Mikhaylov scored 18 of Zenit’s 75 points on Tuesday, while Alexey Samoylenko produced no less than eight points from blocks against the Argentine side.

Shanghai Golden Age
• Shanghai Golden Age, the first Chinese team in any men’s club world championship, opened against hosts Skra Belchatow on Tuesday, losing in straight sets.
• Shuhan Rao and Julien Lyneel set the pace for Shanghai Golden Age on Tuesday, scoring 12 points each.
