Semifinals set in Poland and Brazil Leagues

 

Triple block of ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle goes up to try and stop Jochen Schoeps of Asseco Resovia Rzeszow as the Regular Season wraps up in Poland.

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 2, 2017 - Asseco Resovia Rzeszow defeated table leaders and defending champions ZAKSA Kiedzerzyn Kozle 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) at home before 4,300 fans on the closing day of the Regular Season to secure second place in the standings ahead of the Polish men's PlusLiga Playoffs.

Germany's Jochen Schoeps was named MVP of the game and Marko Ivovic scored 14 points for Resovia, but best scorer of the match was Dawid Konarski with 15 for Zaksa Kedzierzyn Kozle who finished top of the table anyway.



PGE Skra Belchatow finished the Regular Season in third place after Mariusz Wlazly scored 16 points on Sunday evening and led them to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17) sweep of Effector Kielce - with Karol Klos picking up the MVP award.

The home-and-away semifinals (with 'golden set' if needed) begin next weekend.

Poland PlusLiga semifinals:
- ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle v Jastrzebski Wegiel
- Asseco Resovia Rzeszow v PGE Skra Belchatow

The 2017 Polish champions get a ticket as hosts to the 2017 FIVB Club World Championship, 11-17 December. Asian champions Sarmayeh Bank and South American champions Sada Cruzeiro Contagem have already claimed their tickets, as will the winners of the European Champions League, on 30 April in Rome. Two more berths will be filled by the champion clubs of the top two countries in the FIVB World Rankings and a futher two wild cards will be awarded.

Brazil semifinals set
Earlier in the week the Brazil Superleague quartefinals wrapped up with all four favourites completing their series on straight wins. The best-of-five semifinals begin this week.

Robertlandy Simon was voted MVP as he led defending champions and reigning world champions Sada Cruzeiro Contagem to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19) win in the deciding game, in which Evandro Guerra was top scorer on 17 points.



Sada Cruzeiro next face Brasil Kirin of Campinas, who made it through to the semifinals with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 26-24) of Montes Claros. Brasil Kirin captain Rodrigo 'Riva' Pinto was voted MVP of the match after scoring 13 points.

Sesi Sao Paulo shut out Minas Tenis Clube 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) with Lucas Saatkamp named MVP and Theo Lopes leading the scoring on 15 points, while Funvic Taubate destroyed Juiz de Fora 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-14) with Ricardo Lucarelli and Wallace Souza sharing top scoring honours on 14 points each - and the former voted MVP.





Brazil Superleague semifinals:
- Funvic Taubate v Sesi Sao Paulo
- Sada Cruzeiro Contagem v Brasil Kirin Campinas

Archrivals in Argentina final
The two dominant archrivals in Argentine volleyball Personal Bolivar and UPCN San Juan have both qualified to the final of this year's Banco Nacion League, with the best-of-five series for the title beginning on Wednesday 5 April.



Bolivar, who enjoy home advantage in the final series, qualified on Saturday night after defeating Lomas Voley 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18) in the fourth game of their semifinal series. Australia's Thomas Edgar scored 29 points in Bolivar's win.

UPCN San Juan had qualified a day earlier, after a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) sweep of Ciudad Voley of Buenos Aires, with 18 points from Bulgaria's Nikolay Uchikov. As with Bolivar, UPCN also claimed their semifinal series in four games.
