Sada Cruzeiro thrill 14,000 with fifth Brazil title

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 7, 2017 - Sada Cruzeiro Contagem thrilled 14,000 fans as they smashed past Funvic Taubate 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19) Sunday morning at Belo Horizonte's Mineirinho in the single final of the men's 2017 Brazil Superleague to pick up their fourth straight title.



Top scorer Evandro Guerra with 19 points was voted the MVP of the final, as Simon Robertlandy and Isac Santos added another 12 each and Filipe Ferraz 11 for the reigning world and South American champions.


A packed Mineirinho, with 14,000 turning up on Sunday morning for the final of the Brazil Superleague.

Although Taubate, who featured Wallace Souza as their best scorer on 18 points, pressed from the service line, Sada Cruzeiro were highly more efficient in attacking.

It was Sada Cruzeiro's fifth title overall in the Superleague after their first success in 2012 and their continuing run since 2014.

Only Minas Tenis Clube of Belo Horizonte with seven have more national championship titles than Sada Cruzeiro.

They now set their sights on a fourth world trophy, when they go out to defend their title at the 2017 FIVB Club World Championship, next December in Poland.
