Clubs learn fate in Men's Club World Championship draw

 

Former player Krzysztof Ignaczak - a world champion with Poland in 2014 - participated in the draw for the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.

Warsaw, Poland, September 19, 2017 - Polish clubs ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and PGE Skra Belchatow learned their fate as the draw for the pool stage of the 2017 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship was held at the Polsat television studios in Warsaw on Tuesday.

In Pool A, Polish league champions ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle will be joined by Lube Civitanova from Italy, title-holders Sada Cruzeiro Volei from Brazil and Asian champions Sarmayeh Bank Tehran VC from Iran. The four teams will play in Opole.

In Pool B, wild cards and PlusLiga runners-up PGE Skra Belchatow will take on European champions Zenit Kazan from Russia, Club Ciudad de Bolivar from Argentina and Shanghai Volleyball Club from China. The four teams will play in Lodz.

The Men's Club World Championship from December 11-17 will feature title-holders and South American champions Sada Cruzeiro from Brazil, European champions and last year's Club World Championship runners-up Zenit Kazan from Russia, Asian champions Sarmayeh Bank Tehran VC from Iran, host league champions ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle from Poland, Lube Civitanova from Italy and Club Ciudad de Bolivar from Argentina, both league champions from the top countries in the FIVB ranking not yet qualified for the event, and wild cards PGE Skra Belchatow from Poland and Shanghai Volleyball Club from China.

The eight teams participating in the competition will first be split into two pools, one taking place in Opole and the other in Lodz. The top two teams in each pool will then progress to the semifinals and finals in Krakow.


Who will be the top team at this year's FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship?

The FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship will be held in Poland for the first time in 2017. The competition in Poland follows tournaments in Brazil (2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 1991), Qatar (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009) and Italy (1992, 1990, 1989).
